"My Game Has Never Been Stronger"
Working with Matt Hunt has taken my tournament game to the next level. He has a unique ability to connect real hand histories to core poker theory, which makes the concepts click and much easier to apply at the table. Matt focuses on more than just solver outputs — he teaches a clear, structured way of thinking about poker. His guidance on range construction, stack-size adjustments, and other poker theory concepts has helped me feel more confident and deliberate in my decisions. Since coaching with Matt, I’ve made deeper runs, chopped final tables as chip leader, and cashed more consistently on my poker trips. More importantly, I now approach the game with more clarity and direction, and I’d recommend Matt to anyone who wants to strengthen their understanding of tournament poker.

"Two Years of Tremendous Growth"
I’ve been working with Matt for over two years now, and the improvement in my game has been tremendous. He has a real gift for breaking down complex technical concepts and building a strong foundation in theory before bridging it to practical, exploitative play. Whether it’s solver work or hand history analysis, Matt always finds a way to make the learning feel structured and accessible. His support through Discord and private coaching has been consistent and impactful. From tackling tough spots against strong regs to exploiting tendencies of amateur live players, Matt’s approach has helped me adapt and thrive. The flexibility in working with him, combined with his deep understanding of poker strategy, has made a huge difference in how I think about the game. I couldn’t recommend him more highly.

"Elevated My Understanding of the Game"
I discovered Matt Hunt through Solve For Why and began taking coaching sessions with him a few years ago—and I’ve never looked back. Matt’s exceptional knowledge of game theory has been invaluable, and his ability to clearly explain complex concepts has significantly improved my understanding across all poker formats. The strategic foundation I built through Matt’s coaching continues to benefit my game to this day. I highly recommend Matt’s 1-on-1 coaching to players of all skill levels who want to elevate their game, regardless of the format they prefer.

"A Coach Who Truly Elevates Your Game"
I’ve been playing poker for 14 years, but it’s only in the last 5 that I’ve truly dedicated myself to studying the game. Recently, I started working with Matt Hunt as my coach, and it’s been a game-changer. Matt’s not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he has a unique ability to break down situations—explaining not just what the right play is, but why it’s the right play. That depth of understanding has helped me apply concepts more confidently and adapt when similar spots come up. If you’re looking for a coach who can genuinely elevate your game, Matt Hunt is the one!

"Productive, Empowering, and Game-Changing"
I am a poker player with twenty-five years of experience. Over the last few years I have felt the nature of no limit hold ‘em changing as the player pool has become more studied. To stay competitive I decided to elevate my level of play. I had met Matt Hunt a few years ago and found his understanding of the game strong and firmly based in theory.
Since I have engaged Matt Hunt as a coach I have a stronger understanding of the theory behind poker. Range analysis, bet-sizing and hand selection all make more sense now. Things that I was doing correctly without knowing why now have a firmer basis in theory. Errors in my play are more easily corrected because they flow logically from the same theoretical foundation. Solvers, while still new to me, seem more accessible and more useful within this structure. Overall, my experience with Matt as a coach had been productive and empowering as a player.

Coaching Is For You If…
You’re serious about getting better at poker - not just playing more hands, but understanding the why behind every decision.
Maybe you’re a dedicated recreational player who loves the game but feels stuck at a certain level. You study, watch videos, and analyze hands, yet your results don’t reflect the effort you’re putting in. Or perhaps you’re a professional in another field who plays poker as both a passion and a challenge…someone who craves the structure, feedback, and clarity that transforms effort into real progress.
Book A CallFAQs
Can poker coaching help with both tournaments and cash games?
Yes, absolutely. No matter what format you play, coaching will help you improve your decision-making overall. My coaching focus is more directed toward tournaments than cash games, though I've coached players for both.
How long is each poker coaching session?
Over the years, I’ve experimented with different session lengths -from 90 minutes to two hours - but I’ve found that one hour is the sweet spot for most players. That said, I’m moving toward 45-minute sessions to keep things focused and effective. Shorter sessions help maintain energy and attention, so we can get more done in less time.
Can I get customized poker coaching packages?
Yes, absolutely. A monthly retainer package gives us the opportunity to tailor each session to the requirements of the student, and to maintain flexibility on an ongoing basis.
How long does it take to see results from poker coaching?
Results depend on how much work you put in outside of our sessions. Coaching alone isn’t enough - lasting progress comes from training your brain to think differently, and that takes time, focus, and consistent effort. Results are a natural by-product of improved decision-making and positive variance. For some players, changes show up almost immediately; for others, it takes longer. But most clients start noticing meaningful improvements in their thinking and in-game processes after just a session or two.
Is poker coaching worth the investment?
If you take poker seriously and plan to be involved in poker for the long term, then a good coach is one of the best investments you can make. Very few poker players achieve consistent success without a coach of some kind.
Do I need experience before starting poker coaching?
Yes. If you’re a complete beginner to poker, coaching will be of less benefit until you’ve built up enough experience and familiarity with the game that you can orient yourself in the right direction.
How do I prepare for my first session with a poker coach?
Every player starts from a different place, so I like to begin with an assessment that gives me insight into your current game, goals, and study habits. From there, our first one or two sessions focus on identifying key areas for improvement and building a plan around them. For more advanced players, we can often dive straight into targeted hand reviews or strategy work with minimal prep time.
